BRUNEI’S ban from international football seems to be doing them well. The country has surprisingly climbed two places in the latest Fifa World Ranking to reach 189th worldwide despite not playing for more than a year but still producing 21 points from out of thin air.

Fifa released its July rankings on Wednesday and Brunei’s continental ranking (Asian Football Confederation) has also improved two spots. They currently lie 41st in a field of 46 countries ahead of Guam, Afghanistan, Macau, Bhutan and Timor-Leste.

is papua new guinea in the list also? yknow, even afghanistan has a player playing in the english league. i think his name was zesh rehman. not sure which club is he playing for now.. maybe those lower tier clubs

a few weeks ago when nigeria govt threatened to pull their national team out of any competition for 2 years, FIFA interfered.. i wonder why they didnt do the same thing when brunei govt suspended bafa… is it becoz brunei is a small country and nobody really cares about the football here or what….?

Actually kan, when bafa was suspended due to their failure with the financial report as quoted from the news article… some money missing i guess…

the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) explained that there were two alternatives if the Sultanate wants to remain a part of the global football community.

First option is the re-registration of Bafa by the local authorities and second, for a new body to officially apply and be recognised by Fifa.

“The application of a new body can come only after the first body has been expelled,” said Regenass in an email to The Brunei Times on April 2.

“That means a new association could only expect to join Fifa and play in international competition after mid 2012,” Regenass added.
